Multiwire circuits

If you have (4) 20A 120V linear load branch circuits (120/240V single phase service)going into a junction box,do the grounded conductors need to terminate at the panel or could you run one conductor to the junction box that would be sized at 40A?

Why not state what you have found along with the article number that you think applies, and I'm sure will get feedback. Since you are preparing for an exam you need to do as much as you can to come up with the answer.

You may surprise yourself, and the feedback you get will be "You're right"

The reason I have asked the question is that I have never seen this done on Branch Circuits in all my years as an Electrician and unable to find a code that says it can not be done. The Example I used was not the best because the savings would be minimal. If there was 10 or 20 circuits involved the labor and material savings add up.

I seen this done once in some offices that we was tearing out for a remodel. From what I understood it has been there for a number of years and seemed to have worked Ok. Of course we did not repeat the same thing...LOL

Why could you not repeat this installation?

Do you know a code article that prevents you from doing so?

Not giving you a hard time, this is just a subject that comes up once in a while here.
