MV CABLE OVERLAYING IN MANHOLE

We are installing a multi-core MV cable rated 15 KV. During installation, in one of manhole MV cables has inevitably to overlaying (crossing) each other. The objection is being raised that MV cables are not allowed to overlap each other, I just need to confirm is there any code or standard that forbids such installation??

I am absolutely stunned that no one else has responded to you previous post.

Assuming you are using the NEC, there are a ton of requirements beginning in Article 110, Parts III, IV, and especially Part V that address systems above 600V in manholes. That said, there are no explicit nor implicit restrictions that would prohibit MV cables from "overlapping" as you described where there are no LV systems are involved. Again, that assumes all other requirements of Article 110, Parts III, IV, and Part V are met. There are some relatively stringent support and securing requirements.

When I did my examination for high voltage system management part of the HV cable network was deliberately crossed. The system was live at 11kV. and I had to earth each end of one of the crossed cables, it had me scratching my head for a while.

At any voltage ambiguity could prove fatal.

May be, overlapping is prohibited to avoid fault in one cable to damage the other unfaulted, overlapping cable.
