Dear forum members,

I have a case where the designer run the MV cables (15kV) in hospital corridor in steel conduits along with LV cables and other Mechanical utilities.
Is it allowed by code to run the MV cables in corridor??

Waiting for the valuable feedback.

Thanks

Since they are inside an approved raceway, I don't think it matters where they run within the building.

Im not aware of any prohibitions from the NEC. There could be guidance or rules in NFPA 101 or other construction codes and standards related to health care facilities that might address this, but I don't have any personal knowledge of such information.

I think we need to know from which side of effect may such installation might be prohibited, either to protect the MV cables or from safety point of view.

If we assume that we install the cables so it will protected even in case of fire so we can grantee the protection of cables.

From safety point of there is any effect of the electric field on the health or this effect to be eliminated by the insulation.

My concern for the MV cable to run in the corridor is due to public safety as the hospital corridors are busy by people most of the time.

Is the plan approved for construction?

Sounds like the designer screwed up. That stuff should either be U/G, or in a utility tunnel. I'm assuming it's shielded cable.

The plans are not yet approved and the cables are shielded cables as you say.

Laying the cable underground is not possible.

We have our substation at the top of the building and the supply is coming from utility company to basement RMU and from basement upto building top. Unfortunately there is no direct shaft available form basement up to building top and we have to run the cable through corridor in some places to reach upto substation at roof.
