I've seen HV cable with a bare wire ground, an open mesh like shielded cable but not as closed. I understand it's partially there to equalize and minimize voltage stress on the insulation.

Hmmm... not sure what you mean. Ground is ground. Are you asking if the grounding conductor can be insulated and can that insulation be rated at only 600V?


I guess??:? I just remember often seeing something like 3 #1/0(15kv) and 1 600v ground in past feeder schedules. Now I've come across 3#1/0 and 1 #1/0 ground but it doesn't say 600v for the ground

My guess is that grounding conductor could be bare in most instances.
