I am considering how to join my electrical company to an HVAC company. 2 reasons why:
1: This company needs an electrician to make power connections for their tasks.
2: I am hoping this idea would be profitable during the good times and during the bad times, I could learn a new trade.

What are the first steps I should consider, and what advice would you give me to get me thinking?
Thanks!

Re: My company joining an HVAC,, need advice.

I partnershiped with an HVAC contractor shortly after starting my company. Now, when I say partnership, I mean a deal over a handshake and not an official incorporation. Basically, I refer them and they refer me. It has been very beneficial for both of us.

If you actually plan to combine into one company, I would consult a lawyer and the administrative laws of the state you work in. Get everything in writing and ensure you both have the same business plan and work strategy.

I personally would not give up my status of a sole-proprietor for any deal, however, having a network of other trade contractors is nearly essential for my operation. I also have "teamed" up with a plumbing outfit.
