There is a fault in a branch circuit for the washing machine upstairs. Washer is fed from subpanel in garage. Electrician does not want to re-pull wire. Electrician wants to install branch from heat closet disconnect that is also upstairs. I say no. Disconnect will not be in sight. Improper working space. Heat is fed with 4 wire but is #4 Al. and heat ampacity says 58 amps. 60 amp overcurrent is also in garage panel. What am I missing here? There ain't no way...right ? Tell me I'm right..... just a little ?

So the heat has a MCA of 58 amps and is fed by #4 Al? Is his solution to install a sub-panel fed from the existing heater branch circuit?

Laundry doesn't need this
Improper working space.
Maybe

Existing is insufficient for what is there based on a 100% load and branch wire size

In addition Check 210.11(C)(2) the 20A Laundry branch circuit shall have no other outlets. If the 58A heat load is a branch circuit, adding the laundry would not fit this requirement.

If electrician doesn't want to pull another laundry circuit, then locating the fault and repairing is another potential fix.

Thanks for all your input. My first attempt on the forum. The feed to the heat disconnect is #4 Al and there is a neutral, just not used. The heat unit label says MCA 58 and max overcurrent 60. (10KW Heat). I believe the electrician was just grasping for any solution and as the code options were whittled away, he has chosen to pull a new wire.
