National electrical exams, license, and certifcation

hi

im new in the electrical field and to the forums.

I'm seeking guidance from any 'n all electrical field and related persons.
I live in illinois and i'm having trouble finding out how to become licensed or certificated as a electrian and/or electrical contractor. can anyone help a poor soul. =)

Is there a national license or cert. ? if one exist where would i go?

any advice or guidance is very appreicated.

Welcome to the Forum.

There is a National Electric Code (NEC).

The NEC, however, is adopted by "local" jurisdictions. That may be a city, county, state or other legal jurisdiction.

Licensing is handled by jurisdictions.

Perhaps an Illinois member of the Forum will offer links to licensing information for Illinois.

There is no national license or certification I am aware of.

Some States issue a Statewide license good for that particular State.
Some States leave it up to the local county/town.
Some States may not have any licensing procedure.

Illinois seems to fall in that second/third choice above.

You could also ask the electrical department of your local building inspection office.
