As of 4/1/2016 NC has adopted the 2014 NEC-- it's about time. However there are many amendments you can read here http://www.ncdoi.com/OSFM/Engineering_and_Codes/Documents/2014 Edition - Effective April 1 2016.pdf

Interesting to note is that NC does not require gfci nor afci in one and two family dwellings to be readily accessible anymore-- just accessible.

Welcome to 2014:)

I think that accessible requirement instead of readily accessible requirement isn't that bad of an idea. Someone needs to convince proper CMP of this.

Personally I feel the readily accessible is a good idea but perhaps not taken to the extreme that some inspectors have done. My guys spent about an hour going thru a house looking for a tripped GFCI receptacle that was mounted in a crawl space at the far end of the house and covered with insulation. We moved it close to the access door. What a ridiculous place to install it.

I agree it wasn't a wise place to install it, but still think it is more design than safety issue.

Its required to be tested monthly, it should be accessible at least.

(kwired, no need to explain to me that no one tests their GFCIs :p)
