You need to contact the NC state board of Electrical Contractors and find out what they have to say.

I know that recently the EC's have to take at least half their credit hours in a class and the rest can be done with some online tests that are okayed by the state

There was a guy that use to work for the same company that I did and he tried to pass the state exam 3 times and never made over a 60 then he took a class from Jeff Rodriguez's class and made a 86. Try his class. Here is the link www.JCRproduction.com

If you are able to take some sort of classroom prep class before the test, even if it just a general NEC code class, not necessarily speciffic to passing the test, that is the best help, IMO. It is much easier to do so now that you can schedule the class when it is more convenient to your schedule as opposed to the March/Sept. schedule it used to be on. Also, if you happen to not pass agian, I would schedule the test review in Raleigh to find out more specifficly what questions you are having troubles with.

The 16 hours of education that you asked about is required if you fail the exam three times. You will not be allowed to take the exam again until you have completed 16 hours of CE from a board approved provider. Jeff Rodriguez is an approved provider, and I would suggest his course to anyone. His class concentrates solely on the NEC and other material you need to pass the exam, not on basic electricity.

thanks---should have did the test review last time!!!!!!!!!!!!stupid me!!!!!!!!!!i should be ready this time, but we will see........ i take for 3rd time--next month or so---if i fail ,i take review--and sem....and hopefully it works out !!i seen on states web site approved courses--and it appears a sem...of 16credit hours is approved...again thanks for input everyone..hope everyone makes it in these hard times --work is very slow here

I know what you're say about the NC exam. I took the Unlimited exam in November 2008 and scored a 65- very disappointing. I have taken 4 master/contractor exams now and the only one I ever scored less than an 88 on is NC.
I purchased some DVD's and a text book from JCR Productions to help study and they have a LOT of good NC style exam questions to study from.
If your looking for good practice material JCR is the place to go.

Good luck!!!;)

I lived in NC for 10+ years. All the guys I talked to with several State licences said NC was by far the hardest. I wish you the absolute best. There is NO failure this time. You study and hit it hard. After you take the test again, we want to hear you scored high. DON'T get discouraged. You've come this far, knock 'em dead Cheif:wink:
