Hi. New to the forum. Just wondering if anyone has taken the nc state exam. If so, do you have any advice or pointers that I could use? Any information would help as I am preparing to take the test soon. Thanks.

NC Test

I took unlimited last august and got a 69.They put words n the questions
that are not necessary. The questions are set out just the way they are
in that green NC book the board sent you.I took JCR productions course,
studied the material and did not pass. You can learn the material but there
wording can get you.I was very nervous of the time limit and the surroundings,
which didn't help eather.Good look.

In Texas two colleges close to my home offer excellent journeyman and master electrician review classes (all day Saturday and Sunday). Doe NC offer similar classes?

The concept of the apprentice, journeyman and master is one that you don't see much of in NC. There are however exam prep courses offered.

I took the exam about 30 years ago and I admit it was not easy. I believe the average passing rate is 17% for the limited exam. There are 3 basic exam levels for electricians: 1) limited, 2) intermediate and 3) is unlimited. The exams are a bit harder as you go to the unlimited but they are really not that much different. I have had the unlimited license for 25 years now but it would have made more sense to just take the unlimited exam the first time. I did better on the unlimited exam than I did on the limited exam. But that is probably because I took the limited exam 5 years prior to the unlimited exam.
