Anyone have any concrete info on what is needed to acquire unlimited license. I know there is proof of being able to be bonded, and someone mentioned ahving to have certain amount of capital. I have my limited and never messed with anything more because of these reasons. But now we are thinking of upgrading, partly based on copper and overhead prices. They are driving several jobs dangerously close to limit of my license.

Check with the licensing board. I got my unlimited 25 years ago so I am not sure what is needed. I did have to show that I could be bonded but I don't remember any info being asked of my capital at all.

I know builders do have to have a certain amount of assests but I really don't think I did.

I went from intermediate to unlimited about 4 years ago and all it took was taking the test (previously I had only taken the intermediate exam) and proof of bondability.

I think the asset issue may come into play if you take on some hugh jobs. I'm sure if you wire a nuclear power plant you will need to be bonded and that ain't going to happen unless you have some pretty good cash and assets on hand.

True, but it won't affect the licensing.

360 youth, at the Ellis Cannady IAEI get together last week it was mentioned that NC is going to change the limits for the limited and intermediate licenses for this very reason. I think the limited license will change from 25K to 40K and the Intermediate from 75K to 110K, then it will be reviewed every 3 years to look at the rate of inflation and escalation of materials.

if you go on the licensing website www.ncbeec.org and look under forms it will give you a "Bonding Ability Statement" which , generally, your business insurance carrier can have filled out by whoever they get to issue bonds. Or if you have a solid relationship with your bank you can have them draw you up a letter staing you have a credit line of at least $75,001 that can be utilized at any time. Now you need to remember that the ability statement does not require you to be bonded it just states that you are bondable (whatever that means). It is a real gray area and I think the board really needs to look into having the requirements changed.

Thanks for the replies. I did find some info on the web site that was not in the application forms I requested (for whatever reason. I guess they figure you already know if you are asking for the forms:rolleyes: ). Now it is time to study.
