What are the opinions of getting certified for the NCCER curriculum? Is it all that necessary or just for resume filler?

Right here.
I expect that if you work in major markets, that might set you apart. For most of middle America, I think nobody's gonna know or care about any NCCER certs. I had to Google it, matter of fact, and I try to make it a point to know about such things.

My understanding is that the whole program needs to be certified in order for it to benefit the students. The big advantage to the students is that they are registered in a national database (labor pool). They can also move easily from one certified program to another. I became an NCCER Certified Master Trainer (two-day training class as I remember) so that I could certify the instructors in our program. Every time an instructor leaves, your program looses its certification until his/her replacement becomes certified. We have too much turn-over in our program to make it possible. Your program must also be sponsored by an industry representative. The college that I work for was going to be "sponsored" by the local ABC Chapter.

One of the Chapters of the Electrical Council of Florida uses the NCCER course for the apprenticeship program. I have several of the module trainee manuals used for the 4th year. They seem pretty good.

I teach at a private voc school that uses the NCCER curriculum as a base for the tech programs. Overall, it's a good program, but like all other books, it covers some things in too much details, and others too little.

I was just wondering what the rest of the training professionals thought, if anything, of it? By the responses so far, I'd say not much.

I teach a modified version of the EST program which uses the NCCER books. I like the materials, as they provide good background information. For my tastes, the material is too much background theory. However I like to let my students read the background material, before applying it in the classroom. I pull bits and pieces of it out and insert it into my lectures to tie it together.
