A third party inspector put the following notice on my manual transfer switch inspection, "NEC 110.2 X-fer switch not approved by NRTL".

This switch is UL approved, named Centurion, and made by Generac.

In previous forums, someone stated that NRTL is not a NEC issue, only a OSHA issue.

Anyway, any opinions on the validity of this failure?

Listing is definitely an NEC issue. If UL has listed the transfer switch in compliance with the standard that covers the transfer switches and you installed it to that standard, the instructions, and per the NEC - the job should be approved.

NRTL's don't approve materials or equipment. They test them to a standard and list them. Perhaps the inspector did not see the UL mark or listing label on the unit.

One point for being present on inspections; we always try to be. It can mean the difference between "reschedule" and "fix it now."
