I recently had a conversation with an NFPA representative and got into a discussion about NEC sales. According to this person, the NFPA produced 30,000 copies for the pre-order and first shipments. Over the next 3 to 4 years, they expect to sell an additonal 30,000 to 40,000 copies. This got me thinking.
I know this number doesn't included handbook or CD-ROM sales, but it still seems awful low. I recently read a figure that stated 70,000 electrical contractors and 650,000 electricians are employed in the US. Doesn't this mean that only 10% of the electrical professions in the US will ever own a copy of the 2005, give or take a few thousand?
I do realize that some states are still using previous editions and some places even have their "own" code, but I certainly would have expected sales to far exceed the 100,000 mark.
