Looking for others' interpretations or thoughts on:
I have a question about the revised wording of 517.43(B). The following equipment shall be permitted to be . . . .
This wording makes it sound like it's optional to connect room heating etc to the critical branch, although I think the intent is that it is still required.
I have reviewed Thomson Delmar Learning's "Significant Changes to the NEC 2008" (in partnership with the JATC), and it says equipment in 517.43(B) is required to be connected. I've also reviewed NFPA 99, and it uses "shall be permitted". Perhaps the NEC was revised to follow the wording of NFPA.
Anyway, I wish it could have been left alone as it was in NEC2005. What are your thoughts on how this should be read or interpreted. As always, thanks for responses and helpful advice.
