Anyone else think it is absurd that the NECH on cd can only be installed on two computers? I've got two computers I use regularly at work and at home I've got several computers I would put it on. It doesn't seem right.

There's ways around everything. Use your Google.

Try to post an exhibit here. Those cartoons are a million megs.

I think that it's ridiculous too, especially considering what they charge for a 50 cent CD. If I remember correctly you can still use the CD on other computers it just has to be read from a drive to work. This is certainly slower than accessing the data from your hard drive.

IMO, they dont want you to upload it to the net and they only sell only one copy, I know that its hard to believe someone would do this, but this IMO is the reason why... ;)

there's a reason for it. they wouldn't make any money if you could purchase one copy and have 30 people using it at the same time in different places. imagine if you could copy your physical code book in 20 seconds, repeatedly, and hand them out to employees. would you think that is fair? what they could do, for guys that use multiple computers like yourself, is make a version w/ a hardware lock available. install the program on 100 computers if you like; just make sure you have your hardware lock w/ you when you need to access it.

I don't think it is unfair to want to protect against piracy. But even my ipod lets me sync with 5 different computers. For what they are charging I should be able to insall it on a few computers. I would bet that there are many consumers purchasing the CD that have more than two computers they use.
I don't think I will purchase the next edition for this reason.

I don't think it is unfair either. It is always a good idea to not know what the new rules are since the rules may end up costing you a would lot more than a new Code book.

If you think that doesn't seem right, the 2005 NEC CD won't even down/upload onto the hard drive. If you want to view it, it needs to be in the CD tray. So in my opinion to be able to down load to 2 computers is at least 200% improvement over "05" :)

I don't understand, I used the 2005 from my hard drive (in fact, it is still there) for the entire cycle.

Mine requires the presence of the original CD. Are you using the .pdf version instead?

No, mine uses Folio Views.

When I got my 05" I thought there was a problem with it because it had to be in the tray to work. I call NFPA and was told that that is how the 05' is. What year did you get your disc for 05'?

I believe that only the 2005 NECH could be downloaded. The 2005 NEC codebook had to have the disk inserted in a drive to work.

My 1999 NEC allowed millions of installs

My 2002 NECH disk had to be in the drive. Make an iso image of it on you hard drive then run an emulation program and install it from there. This might work as I have never tried it.

My 2005 and 2008 NECH is limited to 2 installs.

I have a work desktop, a personal desktop, a work laptop, and a personal laptop. I only run the NECH on one computer at a time.
I do understand why they limit it. I just wish they let the user of multiple computers load it on all as long as only one copy is running at a time as do many software licence agreements, that is license the users - not the computer.

Have you called NFPA to get a third key? You might want to start there.
