Worth buying the 2008 NEC right now? I am currently using 2005 .

Only if your a hard core NEC reader. Who knows when your state will adopt the 2008 NEC....

I think california is using NEC 2002 for the 2005 CEC.

Wait until the NEC 2008 code change classes start ramping up. You get a free copy at many of those classes. Some of the salesmen from some vendors sometimes give me a copy also, so I seldom need to buy the softcover NEC.

If in CA, I would hold out! Remember we used the '93 until 2000/01, and the '99 until 2004/5/6. (2004 CEC went into effect 2005, and I still had permited jobs on it clear until this year.) Who knows, they might skip a cycle or two, and be years late on any decission.
