I have been attempting to use table 220.86 for a school project I'm working on. I thought I'd work through the examples in the handbook to make sure I was using it properly, and discovered a few mistakes.

The first step of the solution for Example 1 states:

"The initial calculated load based on 220.86 is 1.5 mVA, or 1,500,000 VA."

My first problem is the use of the small 'm' prefix (which to me means milli) instead of the large 'M' prefix (which to me means MEGA). Not a big deal as long as you're paying attention. The very next line states:

"1.15 mVA/100,000 sqft = 11.5 VA/sqft"

OK, where in the heck did the '1.15 mVA' come from??? Even if you continue the improper use of the small 'm' prefix, the problem SHOULD then state:

"1.5 mVA/100,000 sqft = 15 VA/sqft"

It appears that they did the rest of the example properly, but they did it with the incorrect initial values. Example 2 doesn't get much better. They again mis-use the little 'm' prefix, again no biggie if you're paying attention. The next issue is the first line of the solution which states:

"2.5 VA/100,000sqft = 25 VA/sqft"

So they get the right result; they just leave off the 'M' (or 'm') from the 2.5 VA term.

I did several searches before posting this, but I never saw a post that addressed these issues. In fact, several that I saw glossed right over the 'magical' 1.15 substitution. I simply wanted to make a post here in case someone else is as confused as I was when working through the examples. Hope this helps.
