Can you believe it, Already there is a 'debate' on what the true definition of a locker room and 'associated' showering facilities.

I thought it would be plain, a locker room would have lockers in it and a shower close by especially if you know someone is going to be 'wet' in there. Well, theres this debate on a locker(changing room) room, but the shower is oddly located in a 'complete seperate' room with a doors etc.. NEC 2011 210.8(B)(7) requires gfci, since some guys are interpeting this differently (I dont see how personally) they think gfci is not needed.

I dont think I'm looking forward to the adoption of the NEC 2011. :(
Any one else see any potential interpetation issues arising??

Yes, many issues on interpetation in 11.

Even if the shower is in a separate room, wouldn't NEC 2011 210.8(B)(6) cover it regardless if it is associated with the locker room or not?

This sort-of thing happens at every code change cycle when protective devices are expanded to new locations.

When GFCI's became required for bathrooms, suddenly no one could agree on what a bathroom is. The same happened when non-dwelling kitchen gfci requirements came into play. AFCI expansion is creating the same issue. Everyone knew what a bedroom was until afci protection became required.

The best thing to do is reserach the ROP and ROC submitals for clues into what the CMP was thinking when the rule was put into the code and the substaniation behind it. Then, see what is being written as commentary in the NEC handbook, the IAEI's Analysis of Code Change Book, or some other resource that breaks down the code and code changes. Finally, consult the local AHJ and make sure they are seeing it the same why your are.
