NEC 2014 + NEC 2017

Hi all,

Have you ever been able to argue the use of some articles of NEC 2017 in a state that is currently using an older version of the Code? In particular, NEC 2014 has a low-medium voltage threshold at 600V, which increases to 1000V in NEC 2017, which renders some requirements unnecessarily stringent.
For ex. 2014 NEC 110.31 requires a fence to be 10' from live parts. in NEC 2017, up to 1,000V, there is no requirement for a fence AT ALL, which is pretty sweet.

I don't see how you can successfully 'argue' using a standard that has not been adopted by the AHJ.

Sometimes they'll let you slide if the new wording corrects an error or clears up something that was poorly written.

Conversely, would you want for a more restrictive future NEC modification to be used against you?
