I have plans that indicate NEC 2014 section 518.4 only apply to exposed areas in a church 100 or occupancy load. I don’t see this in the code. Does anyone know if it applies to both exposed and non exposed?

"What we have here is a failure to communicate"
Not sure on who's part (although I have an opinion).
Areas of the church with occupancy less than 100 may not be under 518.
Please quote EXACTLY what you are readingl

One of my all time favoritemovie lines. Another one, also spoken by Strother Martin (the actor) was from Butch Cassidy...
"Morons. I've got morons on my team..."

Don’t follow. How can exposed be translated into area of occupancy 100 or less?

always at least twice...
what wording do you see that makes you think the plans "indicate".. QUOTE " ************"

Yes if you could clarify what you mean. Are you saying that the plans have a statement on them stating that article 518 only applies to exposed wiring methods?

OR

Are you misreading 518.4(B) and calling "non-rated" "exposed"?

Or something else?

Note 518.4(C)(1) DOES refer to several wiring methods being acceptable if concealed (with other conditions).

It says “all wiring in assembly area (exposed) shall comply per NEC 2014 Section 518”. So I made them clarify since I though 514.8(A) does not have exposed and then they came back with”all wiring in assembly area (exposed) shall comply per NEC 2014 Section518.4(A)”

They need to remove the 'exposed'. I realize your a plan reviweer and have to go with code minimum, a common local amendment is to remove that section and just require the metallic raceways. It gets tricky to manage a project with 518 areas when people try to use NM. I avoid it all together and only order EMT.

By their wording, is it possible the "assembly area" is exposed ??
Either way, as Dennis points out, Art 518 would apply to all wiring in an area >100.
