I am not sure but I think my state(WV) is still on the 2008 version as their go to guide,I have the 2011 book,would it be worth it for me to get the 2014 version????
 
I think you need to get the latest code that your state follows.

On the other hand it does not hurt to also learn the 2014 and be a step ahead of the game.
 
NEC2011 is the adopted version in WV and the one used for inspection. [Apr 2014]

Of course installations need only comply with the adopted Code version when the work was done.

The Fire Marshall usually uses the newest version of the Code for testing starting about 9 months after it is published. The test version and the enforcement version are NOT synchronized. The theory behind testing to the new version is why make a guy buy an old edition of the code.

Adopting of 2014 may be faster than the adoption of 2011 was.
