The way I read NEC 2017 445.18(B) Is for 15K + generators to have an additional prime mover means of shut down outside the equipment room or enclosure. To me, your average 15 or 20K generator that you lift the cover to access the controls, main breaker etc, is in an enclosure. If that is the case, what would be the best way add an additional prime mover means of shutdown outside the enclosure?

Many generators have a low oil pressure or oil level shutdown on the prime mover.
You could probably extend the sensor circuit to a remote switch to fool the unit into shutting down.

I don't have a 2017 yet to know the exact text, but I often add a remote EPO outside the room that duplicates the function of the set mounted control panel EPO, which will shutdown the engine.

There are remote EPO control inputs on the controller.
