I have a 2006 home in WI built with a finished basement that did not AFCI installed. I want to install AFCI protection where I can in order to bring the house up to code. Under Para 2, can AFCI outlets be installed without an AFCI breaker? I would install a combo AFCI/GFCI at the first outlet and light switch on the circuit.

Thanks,

Mark

While AFCIs can be retrofitted, it’s not that simple, as then you get into TR and GFCI requirements, plus permits and inspections. Best off to have an electrician assist.
