I asked a similar question a while back regarding island / peninsular kitchen countertops.
Someone i know installed an island in his house after the house was built but did not install the underground conduit, wiring or outlet to supply the island counter.
According to nec 210.52 3 (1) a receptacle can be installed above a countertop or work surface but not more than 20" inches above.
According to 2023 nec handbook an example of this option is by installing an elevated backsplash space no more than 20 inches above the counter for mounting the receptacle.
However, this requires tearing up flooring, tile, concrete foundation, drywall, installing conduit and wiring to the nearest GFCI supplied outlet.
Therefore as the code is worded, would not a pendant receptacle box suspended from the ceiling less than 20 inches above the counter meet this code while avoid costly home teardown?
