I mostly do work in heavy industry so many code references don’t come up except bonding etc. I’m currently wiring up a new A/C disconnect and also re-wiring a furnace for replacement.

My understanding is that I need to have a 15-20amp outlet within 25ft of the A/C condenser outside per NEC 210.63 but what I wasn’t sure is does that include by the furnace inside as well?

If it is required by the furnace inside, can it run off the furnace branch circuit before the furnace disconnect?

Thanks in advance!

Outside receptacle must be GFCI WR.
No receptacle require for inside unit as most locations will have a receptacle nearby.
locations requiring receptacles are in 210.63, GFCI requirements are in 210.8

Though it doesn't say why, I think a major reason for needing outside is because that is where vacuum pump will typically be used when needed and isn't always any receptacles anywhere nearby at all for outdoor locations.

One thing I run into with new installations is often the HVAC guys already have pulled their vacuum before the receptacle gets installed. Oh well, guess it will be there for use the next time when maybe this unit needs replaced or other major repair, if the GFCI receptacle hasn't failed by then.
