NEC 215.2

Hi,

First post.. be gentle I am confused by the wording of 215.2... hoping someone can help out.

215.2(A)(2) refers to the "size of the feeder circuit grounded conductor".. which to me means the neutral. It goes on to reference 250.122, which is the sizing for "equipment grouding conductors". The rest of 250.122 mentions equipment grounding extensively.

Can someone explain if its a typo, or what I am missing.

Not a typo... the grounded conductor minimum size must be the same as the equipment ground.

Grounded is nuetral usually since it's grounded at the service. This isn't always the case but for 90% of the time it is unless you work in a plant or something

I run minimum sized neutral conductors frequently to things like a rooftop panel that is doing mostly HVAC loads. The only loads requiring a neutral are a few service receptacles and sometimes things like some exterior lighting and cameras.

I also have done them because at the small subpanel size they aren't very conservative. 60a sub in a garage with 30 being for a hearer. The 10awg nuetral is very heavy since all the 120 load could be unbalanced and still work.
