Hello,
I wanted to confirm if I can use my own made up demand factors or if i am required to use the demand factors permitted by Parts 3 and 4 of section 220.
The wording is throwing me off. Section 90.5 says when i see the word permitted that means the engineer can choose and it's not required.
90.5 Mandatory Rules, Permissive Rules, and Explanatory Material. (A) Mandatory Rules. Mandatory rules of this Code are those that identify actions that are specifically required or prohibited and are characterized by the use of the terms shall or shall not. (B) Permissive Rules. Permissive rules of this Code are those that identify actions that are allowed but not required, are normally used to describe options or alternative methods, and are characterized by the use of the terms shall be permitted or shall not be required.
220.40 General. The calculated load of a feeder or service shall not be less than the sum of the loads on the branch circuits sup plied, as determined by Part II of this article, after any applicable demand factors permitted by Part III or IV or required by Part V have been applied.
