I have an inspector asking for a service load calculation on an existing dwelling and also individual panel calculations on the 200A and 150A main panels.

My question is about 220.83 (A). We completed an electrical installation for a new swimming pool so no additional AC or elec space heating equipment was added and its seems this article applies. We're required to use the 100% of the 1st 8KVA and 40% of the remainder for existing and new loads which shall include: general ltg., small app. and the nameplate of all appliance fixed in place or located on a specific circuit, ranges, dryers and water heaters.
Am I to include nameplates of air conditioning equipment as an appliance fixed in place since they don t specifically list AC equip? If so, should only use the larger load of AC and Heat or include the ac units and the heat pump and supplemental heat packs in the electric furnace?

it seems so but why include both AC and heat pump since only one would be on at the same time?

If you already have the values, do a 220.82 calculation for the existing, then with additions as original.... then compare with 220.83(A).

But ultimately you are correct. There is no alleviation for non-coincident HVAC loads under 220.83(A) except that you get a 2kVA break on the 100 percent demand.

For the sake of using 220.83(B), I'd say I was adding a 15A portable space heater on a GP receptacle circuit, as it doesn't say the heating must be fixed in place... :D

That section doesn't specify use of larger of two loads if they are arranged so that they can not run at same time.

Common sense tells me you will never pull more then the larger load at any time though and I would hope the inspector has enough smarts to figure this out as well, if not he needs to be taken out behind the shed and some physical convincing is needed;)
