Can someone provide me the history of why NEC 230.2 requires fire walls into separate buildings when you have more than one service.

ACtually, that requirement is NOT in NEC but rather in state building codes.

For a large enough factory you can have 2 or more service without having any fire walls between sections of the factory. Usually, that large of a facility will have fire sprinklers anyways.
