I look at these two NEC sections and I see a conflict. 230.46 state's:
Service-entrance conductors shall be permitted to be spliced or tapped in accordance with......
While 240.2 state's:
...a tap conductor is defined as a conductor, other than a service conductor,
that has overcurrent protect ahead of it's point of supply...
In one case service conductors are permitted to be tapped such as when multiple disconnects are used. In the other they are not defined as taps because there is no overcurrent protection ahead of them. Perhaps NEC 230.46 should be rewritten?
