240.87(C): Performance Testing
The arc energy reduction protection system shall be performance tested by primary current injection testing or another approved method when first installed on site. This testing shall be conducted by a qualified person(s) in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

My question is: What are these approved methods that can be utilized when means of primary current injection testing are not available?

Not sure that I would accept anything else...as I understand it, primary injection is the only method that completely tests the system.
Primary injection testing can be destructive to fuses.
Secondary testing does not involve field wiring or CT/sensors.

I would accept a secondary test as part of a regular test/maintenance procedure, but I certainly would not accept it as original commissioning.
