NEC 250.122(D) allows us to size the equipment grounding conductor for a motor circuit based on the motor overload protective device, "but not less than the size shown in Table 250.122". I cannot think of a condition where the motor overload protective device rating is going to be larger than the overcurrent protective device rating. Can anyone shed some light on the point of this allowance for motor circuits? Am I missing the point of this paragraph?

Thats a good point claus...I can't think of when it would apply either. The overload, I would think, would always be smaller than the short circuit/ground fault device.
