In reference to hardwiring a fixture without a box, how do you determine if a fixture is listed to meet the requirements of code?

Look at the manufactures instructions for installaton and/or the UL listing. If it's a porc keyless it doesnt meet the requirement for connection without a box, if its a fluorsecent strip it probably does. The key statement is "identified for the use."
