Nec 300.22(c)(2)

My question involves a clear understanding of the above NEC section. The first sentence states:

Electrical equipment with a metal enclosure, or with a nonmetallic enclosure listed for the use.....

Are both metal and nonmetallic enclosures required to be listed for the use or is it just nonmetallic enclosures?:-?

I would say a metal enclosure meets this

having adequate fire-resistant and low-smoke-producing characteristics,

requirement without being specifically listed for the use.
