Mike holts book days that for several conduit types such as EMT with fittings for wires 6 AWG or smaller do NOT require bushings.

However, my 2020 code book says no such provision under the entire section of EMT. Was the code changed and are bushings required for all conduits and wires wntering boxes except those boxes designed with smooth entrance listed for this?

Ok I see it in an entirely different section 300.4 G not in the EMT section

I still would not know if a set screw connector or compression connector for EMT would be listed or not require a bushing for 6 AWG or smaller wires just based on appearance because all I see are threads

letgo nailed it. EMT connectors have smooth edges and do not require bushings until you get to #4 and larger conductors.
I was putting bushings on all set screw and compression EMTA connectors before and was not aware of this exemption. However I’ll take a double look at the inside of the threads of these connectors next time. I don’t recall seeing the box packaging mentioning that bushings are not required for any connectors. Does this have to be listed for use without bushings?

No listing required for conductors smaller than #4. All that's required is a smooth edge on the connector.

Once you have mastered the NEC you might want to download this:

it's free and its' useful when you have questions about listing
