NEC 36" Clearance issue

We have a electrical panel board installation that was installed before 1965 it violates the clearance requirements (36") what are are options here? is their some kind of grandfather rule?

I think we need more information. Is there work being done? Is the area being renovated? Are you just trying to make them comply with the current codes?

Please clarify and expand on your question.

If this is an existing install--installed before 1965--then It doesn't violate anything. If you are planning to do a panel or service change, then yes you would need to install per today's code.
