I am not understanding this section of the code. I don't know if I'm overthinking this but I am not exactly sure the relationship between the joints and the required support intervals required for the wireways.

Is 376.30(A) saying that a support must be located within 5 feet of the wireway joint?

Or does the wireway need to have horizontal supports every 5 ft regardless of wireway lengths and distances between joints?

Does same apply to Vertical wireway supports?

How long is the wireway?

2008 NEC:
376.30 Securing and Supporting. Metal wireways shall be supported in accordance with 376.30(A) and (B).
(A) Horizontal Support. Wireways shall be supported where run horizontally at each end and at intervals not to exceed 1.5 m (5 ft) or for individual lengths longer than 1.5 m (5 ft) at each end or joint, unless listed for other support intervals. The distance between supports shall not exceed
3 m (10 ft).
(B) Vertical Support. Vertical runs of wireways shall be securely supported at intervals not exceeding 4.5 m (15 ft) and shall not have more than one joint between supports. Adjoining wireway sections shall be securely fastened together to provide a rigid joint.

How long is the wireway?
Each segment will be 5 ft. But what if I had 8 ft or 10 ft segments?

I don’t particularly understand that section of code. They say you must have supports every 5 feet or less but then it goes on to say something about being careful with joints

Would I have to support the wireway at every joint? How far away from the joint must it be?

You must have a support at each joint unless the manufacturer's instructions says other wise. The code does not specify a distance form the joint, so you have to ask your AHJ. If the instructions do not specify that distance, I would be looking for 12" or less.

Does the support have to be on both sides of the joint or can 1 support be used at either side of the joint?
