A while back i asked a similar question here but the response was that "it was not code compliant."

What i was asking is wether a 14 AWG romex nm cable could be tapped from a 12 AWG romex nm cable within a junction box to supply power to standard incadecent light(s). I was told i could not.

However, I came across NEC 410.117 (C) that says a tap conductor with insulation suitable for the temperature encounteted [at the luminair] shall be permitted to to run from the luminair to an outlet box atleast 1 foot from the luminaire.

The conductirs nust be type ac or mc atleast 18" inches (contradicts previous 1 foot minimum rule unless bent?) But not over 6 feet

So it appears you can tap white romex from yellow romex unless exceeding a run of 6 feet?

I forgot to include that the code says that the tap is not limited to mc or ac cable but can include wires ran in a raceway. Therefore, if sizing a raceway by treating the nm cable jacket diameter as 1 conductor, i believe this would be legit

Romex is not a "suitable raceway or AC or MC".

Romex is not a race way, that is why i said placing romex in a raceway after sizing the raceway according to the romex nm cable jacket diameter and trearing this as 1 conductor according to nec conduit fill limit table

I guess you could, if the temperature limitations of Romex meet the fixture requirement. But, if you're running a raceway, why use Romex?

well i guess the answer to my question is that you cannot just tap romex to romex using this code unless you add conduit. This requirement turns a simple tap install (when you only have romex) into something larger, unless you have ac or mc cable
