Hello,

Per 430.102(A), a controller disconnect shall be located in sight from the controller. The only exception I see for this would pertain to over 1000 volts and valve actuator motor assemblies. For this particular application, I will be considering a VFD as the motor controller. The VFD has fuses on the line side for branch circuit protection. With that said, the only disconnect means is located at a remote I-Line panel that is not within sight. Even if the disconnect means at the remote location is lockable in accordance with 110.25, would an additional disconnect means at the controller be required?

There are no provisions that permit a remote lockable disconnect for the motor controller, other than the exceptions that you have cited. You are going to have to provide an additional disconnect within sight from the VFD.

unless the fuse blocks can be used as a disconnecting means. a few are listed that way.
