In review of NEC 430.62 (in the Handbook), I notice that we must assume that the protective device is the same for both the feeder and motor branch circuit. Does this require that if I have a breaker serving the feeder that I must use enclosed breakers to feed each motor or are fused disconnects acceptable? I believe the code is stating that we assume the same type of protective device for calculation purposes, but that it's acceptable to have a breaker feed multiple fused disconnects (via gutter).

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't believe it means that at all. You certainly can have a feeder that is fed from a breaker and the branch circuit fed thru a fused disconnect. Some a/c units demand fuses to be installed but that does not mean the feeder OCPD must be fuses.

Did I answer your question or am I missing something?
