My inspector is telling me MC cable is not permitted in places of assembly. I don't see any exceptions in out state code either. Am I missing something?

If the outside cable is not listed for grounding then he is correct, that is if you are under the 2008.

Check out 518.4(A) 2008 NEC. The addition of the requirement for the wiring method itself to qualify as an EGC is new to the NEC.

What Chris said.:grin: It's part of the code section you quoted. I didn't know it until I looked it up today and I only looked in the 2008 because that's what most of the country is on other than us.

It also states the words 'or shall contain an insulated equipment grounding conductor'.

That is correct and then it would apply.

If I remember correctly this was added to clarify that MC-AP cable could be used.
