The above NEC section as I read it does not make sense. It states:
Dock, pier, or wharf sections that do not support fuel dispensers and abut but are 20 feet or more from dock sections that support fuel dispensers shall be permitted to be Class 1, Division 2.......
It seems to me that it should read "20 feet or less" and the word "permitted" is
incorrect it should read:" shall be a Class 1, Division 2 location". The fuel dispenser and the pit underneath is the Class 1, Division 1 location and the area within 20 feet horizontal in all directions and above the dock should be Class 1, Division 2.
