I have elevator motor disconnect and motor controller integrated all in one in an enclosure in hoistway. Nec 620.51(c)(1) says where motor controller is located in hoistway elevator disconnect shall be located in machinery or control room or space. However, Nec 620.71(a) says motor controller with integrated disconnect means are permitted to be outside of machine or control room or space.

So I am confused can motor controller integrated with elevator disconnect means be located in hoistway or does it have to be in macine or control room or space?

I think if we have a elevator without field control; then we're required to have a disconnect within sight of the motor field controller, And IF we have located this controller in a hoistway; Then we need an 2nd disconnect in the machine or control room or space. 620.51(C)(1). Any driving machine or motion and operation controller not within sight of the motor controller needs a manual switch in its control circuit. All 620.71(A) tells us is if we meet those conditions we can locate the motor controller in the hoistway and not in the "machine or control room or space".
Just the way I read it.
Others will chime in
Cheers
