I agree with jaggedben. Sounds like a bad call on inspectors part.I received a violation today due to NYC still working off of 2008 code violation was 690.4 B two separate systems DC conductors ran to roof in one conduit done this way for aesthetics any way to dispute this decision.

2008 NEC said:690.4(B) Conductors of Different Systems. Photovoltaic
source circuits and photovoltaic output circuits shall not be
contained in the same raceway, cable tray, cable, outlet box,
junction box, or similar fitting as feeders or branch circuits
of other systems, unless the conductors of the different
systems are separated by a partition or are connected together.
There are no NYC amendments to 690.4 so the 2008 NEC is what's applicable.
