NEC 695 - Tap ahead of main - wire trough?

Hi Everyone,

I have a question relating to 695.3(1) - has anyone ever seen a tap ahead of the service disconnecting means where there is one or more service disconnects (let's say enclosed circuit breakers) connected through a wire trough?

In our office, we've only seen it as a separate vertical section in a switchboard/gear. My first thought is that the tap would be in a separate enclosure than the ECB, but it just feels wrong.

Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

It is common to tap the service conductors in a trough before the service disconnecting means.

My apologies - I completely neglected to include the tap was for a fire pump!I referenced 695, but didn't write it out.

Same principal as above. The service conductors come into a trough and then separate to their respective disconnecting means.
