I would like to clarify an earlier question. I do not often deal with NEC. I am in the automation business and use NFPA, IEC, NEMA, and OSHA guidelines. A customer has made a reference to NEC 70, I had hoped for advice on what publication would best outline these codes. I do not know how NEC 70 applies to my application, this is my reason for seeking help in purchasing the most useful source material. Is it covered in a specific publication or do I need a current NEC volume?

Re: NEC 70

For starters, the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70 are one and the same. It is published by the National Fire Protection Agency www.nfpa.org. You can obtain a copy in many places, one of which may be your local public library. It is not available on-line as a free document. It takes up 3 inches of my shelf space, and the electronic version takes up about 20 meg of space on my hard drive. So it is no simple matter to describe what requirements might apply to your customer?s project.

Re: NEC 70

if you build control panels, you will need nfpa 79- electrical standard for industrial machinery and also ul508A.
nfpa 79 - $ 35 approximate & ul508a - $ 400 approximate.
------------------
a friend told me that the ul508a information was in the local library. i don't know about your area.
