Hi,

What does the code mean by saying "...upon the event of failure of the normal lighting branch circuit" in 700.17(1).

Does it mean that we need to provide two circuits for lighting one for normal lighting, and other for emergency lighting in case the normal lighting branch circuit fails for whatever reason?

and if yes, how (1) is any different from 700.17(2).

I'm getting very confused about those two.

Thanks.

If you have an article 700 Emergency lighting circuit, only one is required.
If you have a normal lighting branch circuit, then you need some Emergency power source / circuit to handle the load if the normal fails.
