Does anyone have any thoughts on or experiences with cable removal in commercial office buildings--especially regarding landord versus tenant positions? This appears to be a fairly serious issue among real estate folks and will actually make it into lease language. Dallas, Texas

Removal of dead and abandonded cable should not be within the scope of the NEC. This issue should be in the real estate code.

I understand the abandonded cable in floor duct must be removed. This is unenforceable, it will be called spares and remain in the duct. Not worth the time and ink to print.

It is my experience that removal of abandoned cable could be a full time job! I remove what I replace and what is in the way, but if I had to remove all of the abandoned networking cable (left by others), I would be quite busy. I agree, it should not be in the code. I also wonder who's time to bill when I have to determined which cables are abandoned....

Telecommunications is a great business to be in. What you put in today is obsolete in 5 years. Of course my first computer had a 30 MB hard drive. Now I have a compact flash card the size of a postage stamp that is 128 MB...

One of the owners we work for has it in the tenants lease that all Data/Phone wire are to be removed when tenant lease is up. If they don't comply he has us do the demo and takes it out of there security deposit.
