I have a project that we are installing (40) CMP rated Data Cables (horizontal cabling) for workstations but they terminate on a lower level in the building. To get to this level, we need to run (exposed) in a Riser shaft (no conduit provided).
800.53(B)(1) only mentions CMR in the vertical shafts.
800.53(G) indicates that subsitiutions are allowed per the table (CMP is acceptable for CMR requirements).
**Am I correct that these substitutions apply to and are acceptable anywhere in the building???**

What would prevent me from installing exposed CMP rated cable in a fire rated Riser if we firestop the penetrations as required?

Nothing should prevent you from running plenum cable in a riser. Yes it lists CMR as riser rated which means it's suitable for non-plenum spaces. Plenum cable is not a PVC jacket which is the problem in plenum return spaces. In simple terms, you can run Plenum cables in a riser but you can't run riser rated cable (CMR) in Plenum spaces. But you will still need to Fire stop your penetrations between floors wether it's CMP or CMR rated cable.
